The Miami Youth Group held a three-day "Three Acts of Goodness" Children's Summer Camp from June 14-16 at the Miami Fo Guang Shan temple. The camp was themed around the Disney animated film The Lion King, aiming to help children explore the true meaning of friendship, courage, and responsibility through Simba’s adventurous and laughter-filled journey. Under the guidance of 28 youth group members, 22 children aged 4-12 learned valuable life lessons while joyfully integrating the "Three Acts of Goodness"—speaking good words, doing good deeds, and thinking good thoughts—into their daily lives.
During the opening ceremony, the abbot of Miami Fo Guang Shan, Venerable Ruyuan, appointed Mayleen Wu, the vice president of the youth group, and Emily Huang, the youth group treasurer, as duty officers. Through interactive Q&A sessions, the core principles of the Three Acts of Goodness were gradually introduced to the children. The summer camp officially began with youth group leader Harrison Chan introducing the three groups of counselors.
Accompanied by their elder brothers and sisters from the youth group, the young campers learned basic Buddhist etiquette. They gained insight into Buddhist wisdom through daily activities such as eating, drawing, singing, watching movies, and playing games. The camp also featured a special session where a zoo expert introduced adorable animals, allowing the children to interact with them up close and learn about their unique characteristics. Additionally, science experiments and environmental protection lessons helped the children understand the importance of caring for the Earth and appreciating the wonders of nature.
To enrich the camp experience, a special guest, Orlando youth Ricky Chen, was invited to demonstrate sushi-making. The children participated in a hands-on activity, working in teams to create their own sushi. Not only did they enjoy delicious handmade sushi, but they also learned about healthy eating, teamwork, and creativity.
At the camp’s closing ceremony, parents watched with smiles of anticipation as the children presented a heartwarming and exciting performance. Over three days, the young campers embarked on an adventure of learning and growth, demonstrating the courage and responsibility highlighted in The Lion King. Through the "Three Acts of Goodness," they shared their progress and experiences with their parents, marking a meaningful conclusion to the summer camp.
