On the eve of Thanksgiving, filled with gratitude and warmth, the Compassion and Care Group of the International Fo Guang Association Miami Chapter, led by Venerable Jue Yan and Chapter President Mei Hanzheng, visited the Active Living Nursing Home on November 24 to bring joy to over 20 elderly residents.
Sister Zhang Fengying led volunteers in singing familiar songs and Buddhist chants, engaging the residents through cheerful melodies, rhythm, and hand gestures. The nursing staff noted that these activities helped wheelchair-bound seniors with hand exercises, promoting blood circulation and bringing renewed energy to the peaceful nursing home.
The Compassion and Care Group also organized a special art activity where seniors completed Thanksgiving-themed drawings using a ‘connect-the-dots’ method, stimulating their minds and artistic creativity. The residents joyfully showcased their finished artwork.
To express appreciation for the caregivers’ dedication in looking after the elderly, Fo Guang members prepared gifts and thank-you cards, which were received by Nursing Home Manager Mr. Daniel and caregiver Ms. Sharon on behalf of the staff.
Mr. Daniel expressed deep gratitude for the joy and encouragement that Fo Guang members regularly bring to the residents and staff. President Mei thanked the volunteers for embodying the Fo Guang spirit of serving the community with warmth and compassion, bringing comfort to those facing loneliness.
This meaningful visit not only brought happiness and warmth to the elderly residents but also reminded the nursing home staff that their work is appreciated by the community, showcasing the compassionate spirit of Fo Guang practitioners.
