November is traditionally a time for Thanksgiving in the United States, symbolizing family reunions and gratitude for the good things in life. On November 17, Venerable Jue Yan, Miami Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Association President Mei Hanzheng, Fort Lauderdale Subchapter President Xing Dongmei, and 17 others visited Fire Station 78 in Tamarac, where the Miami Fo Guang Shan temple is located, to express their appreciation to 11 firefighters.
This event aimed to recognize the firefighters' selfless dedication to the community and strengthen the connection between Fo Guang members and the local community. To show gratitude for their hard work, the group prepared fresh fruits, snacks, and cookies. The visit was filled with warmth and harmony, creating a meaningful exchange between both parties.
Lieutenant Evan Rosenbaum warmly welcomed the group and provided an in-depth introduction to the fire station’s work environment and living facilities. Firefighters led a tour of the fire trucks and their various equipment, patiently explaining their functions and demonstrating how they operate. The children showed great curiosity, eagerly asking questions, which the firefighters answered attentively. This lighthearted and engaging interaction not only sparked the children's admiration for firefighting but also deepened their understanding of fire safety.
Venerable Jue Yan expressed deep appreciation for the firefighters' tireless dedication to protecting the community, acknowledging the immense physical and psychological pressures they endure. The event embodied the compassionate spirit of Humanistic Buddhism. President Mei Hanzheng thanked the firefighters for their invaluable service and emphasized the importance of diversity in the firefighting profession.
Firefighter Mr. Chi Liu, whose parents are from Hong Kong and who was born in the U.S., shared that the job is often filled with challenges and high-pressure situations. He expressed heartfelt gratitude for the visit, saying it made him feel the warmth and support of the community. He also looked forward to future exchanges and collaborations with Miami Fo Guang Shan.
