2024-08-08 Miami Fo Guang Shan Assists in Education, Benefiting Underprivileged Students

In response to the "charitable welfare society" principle advocated by Venerable Master Hsing Yun, the founding master of Fo Guang Shan, the Miami Association held a donation event on the afternoon of August 8. Led by Venerable Jue Yan, Association President Mei Han-Zheng, and Supervisor Zhao Guanglong, a group of six association members visited Tamarac Elementary School for a heartwarming donation activity. A total of 936 school supplies were donated, including backpacks, composition notebooks, file folders, headphones, and various other stationery items, aimed at helping students prepare for the upcoming school term.

Mr. Richard Garrick, the principal of Tamarac Elementary School, and Ms. Dione Hilaire, the school counselor, accepted the donation on behalf of the school. The principal mentioned that the school currently has over 600 students, with 75% of them coming from low-income families. As the new school year approaches, many students urgently need various learning supplies. The Miami Association’s generous donation at this critical moment is undoubtedly a timely help, reducing the economic burden on disadvantaged families and providing better learning conditions for the children. He deeply thanked the Miami Association for its selfless support and care for the local community.

President Mei Han-Zheng pointed out that the Miami temple is located in Tamarac, and the donation event received enthusiastic support from Mayor Michelle Gomez, reflecting the positive cooperation between local government and community charity organizations. Although this is the first time the association has collaborated with Tamarac Elementary School on a charitable activity, the association hopes to continue working together with the school in the future to promote the concept of a "Three Good School" and enhance the holistic development of students.

Venerable Jue Yan also stated that the Miami Association is committed to promoting the "Three Good, Four Give" spirit of the Fo Guang people and spreading the seeds of charity to every corner of the community. Next year, the association plans to invite students from Tamarac Elementary to participate in the Three Good Children’s Summer Camp, further deepening the partnership and passing on the "Three Good, Four Give" spirit to more children.

This donation activity marks a new phase in the friendly interaction between the Miami Association and the Tamarac community and lays a solid foundation for future collaborations.
